A: Many insurance agents DO offer rate reductions for installing auto-security systems. Even ifyour agent doesn’t offer insurance breaks for security systems, Mobile Watchman™ EDR willhelp deter criminals from breaking into your vehicle, help you identify fault in an accident oreven make you or your teen more sensitive to safe driving, knowing you’re being recorded.Mobile Watchman™ EDR should help reduce the number of insurance claims you have to file, ultimately lowering your insurance rates.
A: It's as easy to view the images as it is with any digital camera. First you remove the SD cardfrom the vehicle and place it into any SD card reader. You can then either use our free softwareto play an event with audio on your computer or any jpg image viewer software. If a computer isnot available, stores have a photo developing system for viewing SD cards. They will be able toview and print out your images.
A: Mobile Watchman™ systems are very easy to install. While we don’t recommend you install it yourself, simple wire diagrams are included with every Mobile Watchman™ system. It’s as simple as installing a car alarm or even a radio. Though we recommend you use our installer network to perform your install.

A: Car alarms are inadequate in preventing break-ins or even auto theft. Many cities are evenpassing ordinances banning car alarms. The “Club” can be cut and removed, doing nothing toprevent auto theft or break-ins. LoJack might get your car returned but will not tell you who wasresponsible. None of these systems prevents individuals from “keying” your car, denting yourcar or committing a hit and run violation. The Mobile Watchman™ EDR system allows you tosee who is committing a crime against your vehicle, giving you the power to identify the criminaland have them prosecuted. While Mobile Watchman™ EDR may not prevent crime, it putscriminals behind bars.

A: The handful of video monitoring systems currently on the market can all record video whilethe car is turned on and on the road, just like Mobile Watchman™ EDR. However, only MobileWatchman™ EDR has the ability to keep recording events even after the car is turned off andparked. Most crimes against vehicles happen when the car is unattended and parked. MobileWatchman™ EDR gives you protection when you need it most, unlike the other systems, whichonly work when you’re driving, and Mobile Watchman™ EDR costs much less.
A: Mobile Watchman™ EDR is hidden. Even if a criminal knows that Mobile Watchman™ EDRis in the car, they won’t know where to look. Both the mini-cameras, as well as the recordingdevice are hidden in the car in places where it’s not convenient for criminals to reach. Peoplewho steal from cars generally smash and grab; they don’t have time to look for the Mobile Watchman™ EDR device. You can place Mobile Watchman™ EDR in any number of locationsin your car to ensure that it remains hidden and secure from theft.
A: Images are stored on a SanDisk Secure Digital (SD) card hidden inside your vehicle.
A: Mobile Watchman™ EDR is a video-monitoring device for your car that uses up to four minicamerasand two microphones to digitally record video and audio inside and outside of your car.The system uses your car battery for power, utilizing a sophisticated monitoring system torecognize the strength of your battery and adjust accordingly. Mobile Watchman™ EDR usessensors to determine when an event is about to take place, automatically activating the systemto record the event.
A: Mobile Watchman™ EDR CAN act as a deterrent to car-thieves. However, almost no devicewill prevent a criminal from stealing your car if they want to steal it. Car alarms, “The Club”,“LoJack” and other auto-security systems are often just inconveniences to car thieves. WhatMobile Watchman™ EDR does that other systems don’t do is record the face and voice of theperson who stole your car.
A: Mobile Watchman™ EDR uses a sophisticated monitoring system to recognize the strengthof your battery and outside temperature, adjusting its operations appropriately. When thebattery is at full strength, Mobile Watchman™ EDR will constantly record when its sensorsdetect an event. As the battery runs down over time, Mobile Watchman™ EDR recognizes thisand turns itself off, waking up only when the sensors detect a possible event. Moreover, MobileWatchman™ EDR uses less power than your cigarette lighter, overhead dome light orinstrument panel light.

Why Should I Update My Firmware?

It is important to update the firmware (also called “flashing the ROM”) as part of regular maintenance when On Board Systems makes important changes and upgrades. In addition, specific firmware updates helps to keep the system performing optimally. Firmware updates are created for, but are not limited to, the
following reasons:

  • To provide critical problem fixes that ensure system stability, such as upgrades that may prevent system unresponsiveness and other issues that could put the system at risk.
  • To correct product issues, such as ROM or processor functionality.
  • To improve system performance or make the system more serviceable

On Board Systems has developed a simple method for updating the firmware.

What is firmware?

Firmware is a software program that is stored in Read-Only Memory (ROM). Firmware is responsible for the behavior of the system when it is first switched on and for passing control of the components to the operating system. When referring to the firmware on the board of the system, it is called the System ROM or the BIOS. System options have firmware that can be updated. For the purposes of this paper, it will be referred to collectively as “firmware.”

How Do I Update My Firmware?

Once a firmware update is available, the next step is to install the update onto the system. OBS has one method for updating firmware, making the process easy. The following paragraphs discuss updating the firmware and provides information on how to perform the update. Currently, there is one method for updating firmware on OBS systems.

Your firmware update will depend on the system you are using. On Board Systems has released two products for the EDR family and your system is in one of these categories. Your Data Recorder uses either a Speaker or has a LED (Light Emitting Diode) for notification. If you are unsure which system you are using please call us for support.

CHOOSING THE WRONG FIRMWARE FOR YOUR SYSTEM WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO YOUR SYSTEM. PLEASE INSURE YOU DOWNLOAD THE CORRECT EDITION.

Systems which have a LED (Light Emitting Diode) will download these files

Instructions:

Choose the model of system you are using.

Follow the link to the firmware folder where you will find firmware and command files for your system.

There are four files which must be put onto your SD card:

FIRMWARE.EDR - Standard firmware update

FWSYSTEM.EDR- Standard firmware update for internal backup firmware

FMTSDINT.EDR - this file tells the system to FORMAT the internal SD card.

FMTSDEXT.EDR - this file tells the unit to FORMAT the external SD card. After the format is complete, CONFIG.EDR will rewritten to the SD card or you may recreate your configuration file.

All of these files need to be copied to the root directory on the external SD card. When the are copied, the system will perform the upgrade and/or format.

The actual process requires several reboots of the device, so you need to leave the card in for a couple of minutes.

The sequence your system will perform is to:

1. Boot up and read CONFIG.EDR
2. Process FIRMWARE.EDR file and reboot
3. Process FWSYSTEM.EDR file and reboot
4. Process FMTSDINT.EDR
5. Process FMTSDEXT.EDR
6. Write out config, and reboot
7. Start normal operation

After you have the files saved to your desktop you will need to have the Secure Digital (SD) Card available.

1. Unlock the SD card by lifting the tab on the side which will unlock your card
2. Insert your card into the computer (cancel any windows which may pop up
3. Make any backups of the folders and events on your SD card you wish to keep
WARNING:
This update WILL Format your SD Card and WILL remove all data from the card. Be sure to save any important files to your hard drive before formatting the card. Ignore errors which may occur.

4. You will now need to open the ZIP file and extract the files to your SD Card:

    FIRMWARE.EDR
    FWSYSTEM.EDR
    FMTSDINT.EDR
    FMTSDEXT.EDR

5. The final step is to insert your card into your vehicle and the system will upgrade to the new firmware.

NOTE - IF YOUR CARD SAYS IT IS FULL PLEASE CONTACT US DIRECTLY FOR INSTRUCTIONS!
